Jesus is God?
How can Jesus be God the Father and the Son of God at the same time? Remember- God is NOT the author of confusion.
This is another confusing manmade doctrine that causes both new and old Christians much frustration. Hopefully the following will ease the frustration and help our brethren understand that Jesus is the Son of God and because He is the Son, He is equal with His Father- God.
Theologians fear they will be disrespectful of Jesus if they place Him subordinate to God, the Father. But scriptures show that Jesus respected God, the Father by claiming to be the "Son of God." The son (or sons) of any family is subordinate to the father, but in many ways the sons have the same authority as the father during adulthood. And, numerous times, scriptures show that the "Son of God- Jesus" prayed to His Father- God. And, often, Jesus spoke as a subordinate to His Father, God.
John 14:28 (KJV) Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
The Bible consistently portrays a "Father-Son" relationship between God, the Father and Jesus, the Son." And because of the authority given to Him(Jesus) by the Father(God), Jesus was and is "equal" with God.
Philippians 2:5-8 (KJV) Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
But being "equal with God" does NOT make Jesus GOD. The following scripture clearly states that there is but "one God.- the Father, NOT the Son"
1 Corinthians 8:6 (KJV) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
The conjunction "AND" tells us that there are TWO beings - "ONLY ONE God AND ONE Lord Jesus Christ." This scripture tells us that there is a definite distinction between GOD and the LORD JESUS CHRIST. It does NOT say they are one and the same. And it DOES NOT say that Jesus is GOD! It says "there is but one God- the Father" NOT one GOD -the Son.
As you can see, the only references used are the scriptures of the Word. The Word of God is the Truth.
